Product details

MCP19111 Battery Charger Evaluation Board

The Microchip MCP19111 Evaluation Board is a platform that demonstrates the MCP19111 PWM Controller in a multi-chemistry battery charger application. The board can charge NiMH batteries of up to seven cells, Li-Ion batteries of up to four cells, VRLA batteries of up to six cells and LiFePO4 batteries of up to five cells. The featured device dynamically regulates the amount of charge current and the type of charging as per the battery state reading.

The board provides all the needed circuitry to get a working demonstration up and running and allows the MCP19111 to be easily customised. A bespoke MCP19111 Battery Charger Graphical User Interface (GUI) is used to monitor and configure the MCP19111. Programming of the MCP19111 can be achieved using MPLAB X IDE and MPLAB XC8 Compiler.

The featured MCP19111 is a digitally-enhanced PWM Controller. The device integrates an 8-bit PIC Microcontroller with a PWM Current Mode Controller to provide a flexible and customisable Buck Controller solution. The PWM Controller regulates the output of the DC/DC converter while the MCU dynamically customises the device. Operating parameters, start-up and shut-down profiles, protection levels and fault handling procedures can all be tailored to create a high efficiency buck converter.
