9202B Type - EX Pulse Isolator

PR Electronics 9202B pulse isolator for transmission of signals to the safe area from NAMUR sensors and mechanical switches installed in hazardous areas. This signal conditioning isolator measures one or more pulse inputs and provides an identical number of isolated pulse outputs. The PR 9202B uses transformer and optical isolation techniques to provide 2.6 kV galvanic isolation between the input, output and power terminals. The high level of electrical isolation means that input pulses sensed at the 9202B are not electrically connected to the output pulse. The 9202B has been designed, developed and certified for use in SIL 2 applications according to the requirements of IEC 61508.

Besides providing isolation, the PR 9202B is a barrier. This means that the module can make an intrinsically safe measurement of contacts and NAMUR sensors mounted in a zone 0/ Division 1 explosion hazard area. The PR 9202B limits the level of energy present at the contact or the NAMUR sensor to a low intrinsically safe level, thereby preventing ignition of a flammable atmosphere around the sensor – even if the sensor or the cable is damaged.

Features and Benefits

• Can be mounted in the safe area and in zone 2 / Class 1, Division 2 and receive signals from zone 0, 1, 2 and zone 20, 21, 22 including M1 / Class I/II/III, Division 1, Group A-G.
• Configuration and monitoring by way of detachable display front (PR 4501)
• 2.6 kVac galvanic isolation between input, output and supply
• Selection of direct or inverted function for each channel via PR 4501
• Advanced monitoring of internal communication and stored data
• Designed, developed and certified for use in SIL 2 applications
• Extended self-diagnostics and detection of cable fault
• Monitoring of error events and cable breakage via the individual status relay and/or a collective electronic signal via the power rail
• Front LED indicates operation status and malfunction
• Can be supplied separately or installed on power rail, PR type 9400
• DIN rail mounting

Programming

The 9202B universal transmitters are programmable via the PR 4501 detachable display module (7966890). The 4501 module allows the programming of the vast array of input and output parameters easily and safely. Together with advanced functions including 2 point calibration, process simulation and diagnostics.
With a simple menu and explanatory text the 4501 is extremely straightforward to navigate. Functions are clearly depicted on the 4 line LCD display even in low light conditions. Line 1 shows the input signal, line 2 shows the units, and line 3 shows analogue output or tag number. Line 4 shows the communication and relay status. In addition the 4501 features password protection. Programming access can be blocked by assigning a password which is conveniently saved in the 9202B transmitter. This ensures a high degree of protection is maintained and prevents any unauthorised modifications to the configuration.
